Summary

Forsite produced quality data to clients that accurately reflects the status of their regenerating lands, and worked with clients to incorporate the use of technology to transition from surveys to large scale aerial imagery. Regeneration surveys are typically completed in the spring to fall field season which creates access challenges. The incorporation of large scale aerial imagery mitigates some of the operational challenges of ground based surveys. The imagery can be captured at the optimum timing to allow the softwood species to be visible in mixed wood blocks, the interpretation of the imagery is completed in an office environment and the field crew efforts are limited to quality assessments. The large scale imagery also provides a complete visual record of the entire block that can be reviewed by the client and government at any time. We describe large scale imagery as a “picture is worth a thousand plots”.
